Public Policy

Study Committees

Since 1952, the Citizens League has engaged its members in a unique policy development process we call study committees. Study committees are made up of Citizens League members who get together to learn about, talk about, and make recommendations about an important public policy issue. Policy Advancement

Citizens League members and staff evaluate the policy landscape for opportunities to advance the recommendations of our study committees. Policy advancement groups have assembled recently on judicial selection, transportation, and medical care. Click here to learn more.

Convening Efforts

In some cases, a process that builds relationships in order to produce policy solutions is the most effective course. Sometimes what we need to make progress on an issue is not further study but for a diverse group of citizens and stakeholders to agree on how best to make progress on policy recommendations that are generally accepted. The Minnesota Mental Health Action Group (MMHAG) is an example of a project in which the Citizens League convened a broad group to agree and act on existing ideas for policy solutions in a committee structure.
