2008 Work Plan

Goal 1: Civic Policy Making and "Setting the Agenda"
To build an innovative and effective civic policy agenda resulting in break-through policy recommendations on issues that matter most to Minnesotans and lead to positive and systemic change.

Three Year Strategies

  1. Clearly define a new civic policy agenda and demonstrate our point of view in all our work

    A "civic policy agenda" is an approach to governance grounded in the belief that all individuals are policy makers and all institutions are policy centers.

    Our point of view is reflected in our civic principles and guidelines and becomes clear to others as we demonstrate our success through actions and results based on those values.
  2. Advance approved policy recommendations
  3. Increase capacity to frame issues and make "break-through" policy recommendations

Goal 2: Civic Engagement and Building a Base of Support:
To build and leverage the capacity of Minnesotans and Minnesota institutions to take responsibility for civic policy making and civic leadership, and to fully integrate our policy and member engagement resources.

Three Year Strategies

  1. Build a large and diverse base of members
  2. Engage our members
  3. Foster and recognize the civic leadership capacity of our members

Goal 3: Internal Capacity and Long-Term Relevance and Sustainability:
To foster an organizational culture that uses civic organizing disciplines to leverage the talents, skills, expertise and resources of staff, contributors, contractors, engaged members and supporters in order to achieve and sustain our vision and mission.

Three Year Strategies

  1. Demonstrate competency and adherence to best practices in management and operations
  2. Increase our long-term financial stability through a new development strategy
  3. Increase our communications capacity and implement a new long-term visibility strategy
  4. Strengthen internal governance practices
  5. Use civic organizing practices to achieve and sustain our goals
